Liberalism Run Amok: Texas Veterans Told Not to Say the Names “God” or “Jesus” in Services
June 29, 2011 by DiscerningCitizen · 1 Comment
Whenever you starting thinking that lefties couldn’t be more obnoxious and arrogant, count on them to find a way to outdo themselves. The director (or is it Supreme Ruler?) of the Houston National Cemetery has decreed that veterans cannot use the name “Jesus” and “God” in prayers without her prior approval. From KTRH.com:
They fought for their country, now they’re fighting against it.
A trio of Houston area veterans groups is suing Veterans Affairs and the director of the local National Cemetery claiming they’re trying to censor religious freedom during funerals and other ceremonies.
This all started just before Memorial Day when a pastor giving the annual prayer at the National Cemetery was told he could not use Jesus’ name. A federal judge blocked the VA’s attempt to censor him and the two sides were back in court Tuesday.
Attorney Jeff Mateer represents the Liberty Institute; he says the cemetery director won’t allow the use of “God” or “Jesus” unless the family submits the prayer in writing for her approval.”In addition, director Arleen Ocasio has stated the National Memorial Ladies cannot tell families ‘God Bless,’ they cannot communicate in writing or orally,” says Mateer. “And that violates the U.S. Constitution.”
If this doesn’t tick you off, I don’t know what will. Liberalism truly is an obnoxious, arrogant, and ignorant cancer in this nation. Check out the full article here.
A Victory For the Constitution: Goodwin Liu Nomination Blocked By Senate Republicans
June 7, 2011 by DiscerningCitizen · 3 Comments
Those of us who believe in limited government and Constitutional originalism should applaud Senate Republicans for blocking Obama’s nomination of radical leftist Berkeley professor (not to be redundant or anything) Goodwin Liu to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. From FoxNews.com:
A liberal legal scholar at the heart of the debate over judicial activism on Wednesday asked President Obama to withdraw his nomination for a position as an appeals court judge after Senate Republicans blocked a vote on his confirmation last week.
Goodwin Liu, 40, wrote in a letter to President Obama that “with no possibility of an up-or-down vote on the horizon, my family and I have decided that it is time for us to regain the ability to make plans for the future.” Read more
A Sullen Obama Shown Up and Outclassed by Netanyahu in Recent State Visit

Netanyahu Meets With Apparently Irritated and Sullen Obama
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu showed himself to be a class act during an awkward visit with an apparently irritated and sullen president Obama a week and half ago. The week Netanyahu was to visit the US, President Obama bizarrely started a “disagreement among friends” with Israel that I think ended up being pretty embarrassing for him and the United States.
It all got started in his so-called “Arab Spring” speech when the president urged Israel to return to it’s 1967 borders as part of a peace agreement with the Palestinians. Read more
SEIU’s David Kieffer on Bypassing Voters to Raise Taxes: The voters don’t ‘need to be involved in this decision’
June 2, 2011 by DiscerningCitizen · 8 Comments
There truly is no end to the greed of the public employee unions. SEIU executive director David Kieffer isn’t going to get his way at the ballot box, so he wants to bypass voters altogether and stick already over-taxed Californians with even higher taxes in an effort to close the state’s massive budget deficit.
In a state where 9000 public employee retirees collect over $100,000 in pension benefits every year (totaling $1.1 billion in expenses for the CalPERS, the public employee retirement system), the last people to be asked to sacrifice for the greater good will be the public employee unions. Read more
How Conservative is Tim Pawlenty Really?
May 24, 2011 by DiscerningCitizen · 1 Comment
Republican presidential contender Tim Pawlenty has been saying some good stuff lately, but is he truly the conservative we need to face down Obama in 2012?
After announcing he’s running for president, Pawlenty displayed some very conservative mojo by telling Iowa voters that ethanol subsidies, which benefit the farm states bigtime, need to be phased out. Read more
Tim Pawlenty Was For Cap and Trade Before He Was Against It
May 18, 2011 by DiscerningCitizen · 2 Comments
Is it me or is the Republican presidential field looking a little weak these days? I’ve never been enamored with Tim Pawlenty, but after finding out he was for cap and trade before he was against it, I’m not too excited about voting for him. I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised – after all, he may be a Republican, but he got elected governor in the very blue state of Minnesota.

SEIU Goes Full Communist at Los Angeles May Day Rally
May 7, 2011 by DiscerningCitizen · 5 Comments
Ringo the Gringo over at Ringo’s Pictures attended the May Day Rally in Los Angeles last weekend and took a ton of pictures. If you’re a Lenin or Che fan, the pictures should give you a warm and fuzzy because the communists were out and proud. More disturbing, however, was the fact that labor unions were out and proud as well, marching practically arm in arm with communists and gay and lesbian and radical racist Hispanic groups like La Raza. Does the Liberal Left Really Believe In ‘Democracy’?
April 28, 2011 by DiscerningCitizen · 3 Comments
I’ve never been able to figure out the liberal left. They say they support democracy, yet they are the biggest proponents of new bureaucracies that dilute the power of the people over their government. Enter Obama’s IPAB, or the Independent Payment Advisory Board, a new bureaucracy created in the Obamacare bill to regulate Medicare payments. Read more
IMF Report: Should We Worry That China’s Economy Will Surpass the US Economy in 2016?
April 26, 2011 by DiscerningCitizen · 1 Comment
RightPundits.com seems a little nervous over the recent report from the IMF that says China’s economy will surpass the US economy by 2016.
Personally, I don’t buy it. For one thing, China’s economy is seriously overheated. They’ve blown a real estate bubble far larger than ours was that is now starting to pop – and their banking system is not as developed and stable as ours. Additionally, they have to print up 6 yuan for every dollar we send over there in exchange for Chinese iGadgets, iStuff, and iCrap, which means they’re importing our inflation. Not surprisingly, skyrocketing prices are causing riots in some Chinese cities. To combat inflation, the government has to let the yuan appreciate. But that will trash their export economy, which depends on an undervalued yuan to keep Chinese goods cheap. The Chinese government is between a rock and a hard place on this one. Read more
