I’ve argued with lefties on numerous occasions about abortion and have told them that someday abortion will be looked on as an evil at least as great as slavery. Those that support abortion today are on the wrong side of history, and are becoming dinosaurs compared to the shifting public opinion on the abortion issue. From LifeSiteNews:

A new CNN national poll of Americans finds results that are almost identical to a Gallup survey earlier this year, and it shows 62% of Americans want all or most abortions made illegal.

CNN asked the question, “Do you think abortion should be legal under any circumstances, legal under only certain circumstances, or illegal in all circumstances?” The survey found 25 percent of Americans want all abortions legal while 21 percent want all abortions illegal, and it had a large group of 53 percent of Americans saying abortions should be legal only under certain circumstances.

However, with a large percentage of Americans opposing abortions except in cases such as taking of the life of the mother, or cases of rape or incest — both of which, combined, constitute less than two percent of all abortions in the nation, according to the Guttmacher Institute — most Americans truly want 100% of 98 percent of the 1.2 million abortions a year made illegal.

A follow-up question CNN asked showed that to be the case.

What is truly remarkable about this poll is that young people are the most firmly against abortion, despite often being very liberal (or maybe just uninformed?):

By age, Americans also oppose abortions — with 59 percent of people aged 18-34, 58 percent of those 35-54 and 64 percent of those over the age of 55 saying all or almost all abortions should become illegal. Younger Americans are most supportive of making all abortions illegal, with 24 percent of 18-34 year-olds saying so and 35 percent saying they want abortions legal only in a few circumstances.

I truly believe that it’s only a matter of time before abortion is largely outlawed in the United States and around the world. And as with slavery and segregation (and maybe global warming?), those in the Democratic Party will once again be the ones clinging to a dying issue and refusing to change with the times.

I still find it incredible how the Bible, a book thousands of years old, predicted many of the events happening today as part of the end times. Check out the following, from express.co.uk:

“David Cameron was under mounting pressure last night to hold a referendum on EU membership amid claims that the Coalition is paving the way for full eurozone financial integration. Tory and Labour MPs believe that Chancellor George Osborne’s hopes for a single eurozone tax system will lead to the EU becoming a fundamentally different organisation to the one the UK joined in 1973.
Many also fear that Britain will come under intense pressure to adapt its tax and regulatory policies to conform more closely with the eurozone once fiscal union is under way, even if the UK remains outside the single currency. Steve Baker, Tory MP for Wycombe, said: “It is very clear that the EU is heading at full speed towards being one country.”

And then there’s this the Washington Post:

The Dow Jones industrial average fell, the euro slid against the dollar and key European markets edged down in off-hour trading after Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany and French President Nicolas Sarkozy announced the results of their emergency talks in Paris.
Sarkozy called for a “new economic government” for Europe that would meet at least twice a year with European Union President Herman Van Rompuy as its head, but he offered few other details or indications that the body would have real power. Merkel and Sarkozy also called for all euro zone nations to enact constitutional amendments requiring balanced budgets. They said they want the process completed by the summer of 2012, but it would almost certainly run into protracted political difficulties in many countries. Both leaders said the moment was not right to replace 17 government bonds with a single one allowing weaker economies to borrow in cooperation with the powerhouse economies of France and Germany. A growing number of experts are calling for the eurobond as a way to prevent the unaffordable interest rates that have driven Greece, Ireland, and Portugal to seek bailouts from the eurozone countries and the International Monetary Fund.

The Old Testament prophet Daniel long ago predicted that Europe would unify into a revived form of the Roman Empire. From Daniel 7:7-8 (NASB):

After this I kept looking in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, dreadful and terrifying and extremely strong; and it had large iron teeth. It devoured and crushed and trampled down the remainder with its feet; and it was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns. 8 While I was contemplating the horns, behold, another horn, a little one, came up among them, and three of the first horns were pulled out by the roots before it; and behold, this horn possessed eyes like the eyes of a man and a mouth uttering great boasts.

Verses 23 to 27 clearly establish this final beast as an end times kingdom that would preside over the world during the “time, times, and half a time” understood to be the first half of the 7-year Great Tribulation period. Out of this kingdom will arise a powerful tyrant that will enslave the world and persecute the Church. From Daniel 7:23-29 (NASB):

Thus he said: ‘The fourth beast will be a fourth kingdom on the earth, which will be different from all the other kingdoms and will devour the whole earth and tread it down and crush it. As for the ten horns, out of this kingdom ten kings will arise; and another will arise after them, and he will be different from the previous ones and will subdue three kings. He will speak out against the Most High and wear down the saints of the Highest One, and he will intend to make alterations in times and in law; and they will be given into his hand for a time, times, and half a time. But the court will sit for judgment, and his dominion will be taken away, annihilated and destroyed forever. Then the sovereignty, the dominion and the greatness of all the kingdoms under the whole heaven will be given to the people of the saints of the Highest One; His kingdom will be an everlasting kingdom, and all the dominions will serve and obey Him.

Is it really that incredible to think that in the midst of deep economic crisis the world would yearn for a powerful leader who would make everything all right, especially considering that so many are pushing for a one world government anyway?

We truly live in extraordinary times. Who would have ever imagined that such things, predicted thousands of years ago, would happen today? Just the mere existence of Israel is a tremendous testimony to the prophetic power of the Word of God. What are the odds that a nation could be scattered throughout the world for two thousand years, preserve its language, religion, and culture for the entire time, and finally be reunited as a sovereign, independent nation on its ancestral homeland? What are the odds of that ever happening? What other people in history can lay claim to a similar story? Incredibly, the Bible predicted it would happen millennia ago.

A recent episode of Judge Judy illustrates abundantly one of the core problems afflicting America today: the freeloader entitlement mentality. In the video below, Judge Judy takes it to two deadbeats who are living off and abusing the social welfare system.

If the county is giving you money for rent, and you’re not using that money for rent but using it for yourself then you’re stealing that money.

I don’t want to pay your rent. The government says that I have to pay your rent. Even officer bird doesn’t want to pay your rent, but if we have to pay your rent, we don’t want the money we send to you for rent to go to anything else other than rent.

I’m sending this tape to Congress.

What’s particularly grating about this is the fact that the real person who got screwed here was the landlord. Make sure to watch the entire video to see what I mean.

Isn’t the liberal solution to poverty always to throw more money at it? Tell me, how is throwing more money at these two deadbeats going to help pull them out of poverty? Seems to me that freebies just reinforce the entitlement freeloader mentality. These two should be banned from the welfare system forever because of this.

Obama has proven that no low is too low over this debt ceiling issue. For weeks he’s been fear mongering about how a failure to increase the debt ceiling by August 2 will result in a US default that will cost seniors their Social Security checks and cause the financial system to collapse. Well, today, it turns out that he’s been telling a different story to the big banks. From Fox Business:

While officials from the Obama Administration raised their rhetoric over the weekend about the possibility of a debt default if the debt ceiling isn’t raised, they privately have been telling top executives at major U.S. banks that such an event won’t happen, FOX Business has learned.

In a series of phone calls, administration officials have told bankers that the administration will not allow a default to happen even if the debt cap isn’t raised by the August 2 date Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner says the government will run out of money to pay all its bills, including obligations to bond holders. Geithner made the rounds on the Sunday talk shows saying a default is imminent if the debt ceiling isn’t raised, and President Obama issued a similar warning during a Friday press conference after budget negotiations with House Republicans broke down.

Apparently the Great Anointed One, the Messiah, isn’t above scaring seniors if he can get political leverage out of it. This man is not a statesman, he’s worse than a used car salesman. It’s this kind of dishonesty and political gamesmanship that makes people so cynical about politics.

Besides, there’s really not any imminent danger of a default anyway, as Vox Day points out:

Moreover, there is no chance of forced default. In August, there will be a projected $150 billion in tax revenue. Interest payments will only be $29 billion. That leaves more than $120 billion to spend on everything else. So, anyone who claims that default is unavoidable as of August third or anytime in August is blatantly lying.

Again, all this is about is politics, pure and simple. Obama is simply leveraging the serious issue of government overspending and the debt ceiling for political gain. As I’ve pointed out before, with the political left, it’s politics first, everything else second.

Federalist #1 is the first in a series of essays published in newspapers from 1787 to 1788 to argue for the ratification of the new Constitution of the United States. Our newly independent nation had been operating formally under the Articles of Confederation since 1781, but the governmental framework implemented by the Articles was found to be too weak and ineffective to serve the needs of the states. A stronger framework was needed, so a constitutional convention was convened in May 1787 and the Constitution was drafted.

The Federalist Papers were written by Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, and James Madison – under the pen name Publius - to explain to the American people why the Constitution was essential, how the new government would work, and how it would protect their liberties.

The Founders Were Wary of a Powerful Central Government

Those on the left often insist that the Founders of our nation would gladly have supported many of the big government, statist initiatives that Democrats like to push. However, the fact that Hamilton, Jay, and Madison had to so passionately argue for the Constitution in long series of detailed essays speaks to me of how wary the people were of a stronger central government. They had just been through a long and bloody war to gain independence from one tyranny, so it makes sense that they were wary of giving the new government too much power. The authors of the Federalist Papers had to take great pains to assure the people the new government they were promoting had adequate checks and balances to protect the liberty of the people and the states.

A Unique Opportunity in Human History

The fact that the colonies had the opportunity to design the form of government under which they would live was truly a unique occurrence in human history, as Hamilton points out:

It has been frequently remarked that it seems to have been reserved to the people of this country, by their conduct and example, to decide the important question, whether societies of men are really capable or not of establishing good government from reflection and choice, or whether they are forever destined to depend for their political constitutions on accident and force.

Politics Was Just As Polarized And Vitriolic Back Then As It Is Today

Federalist #1 reveals that politics today is not much different than it was two centuries ago. If we think our political discourse is divisive and vitriolic, it was no different back then. Hamilton prepares his readers for what he expects to be a passionate, divisive, and polarizing debate over the future of the nation:

A torrent of angry and malignant passions will be let loose. To judge from the conduct of the opposite parties, we shall be led to conclude that they will mutually hope to evince the justness of their opinions, and to increase the number of their converts by the loudness of their declamations and the bitterness of their invectives. An enlightened zeal for the energy and efficiency of government will be stigmatized as the offspring of a temper fond of despotic power and hostile to the principles of liberty. An over-scrupulous jealousy of danger to the rights of the people, which is more commonly the fault of the head than of the heart, will be represented as mere pretense and artifice, the stale bait for popularity at the expense of the public good.

Human nature is the same today as it was 200 years ago, so I guess it’s no surprise that the public discourse back then was filled with bitter “invectives” just as it is today. This doesn’t mean we shouldn’t demand that our leaders argue the issues with respect and integrity, but we shouldn’t allow ourselves to be discouraged when the public debate becomes utterly pathetic either. Divisive politics was the norm back then just as it is today.

Feel free to check back, I’ll be digging into more of the Federalist Papers in the coming weeks.

The following is a transcript from the show:

DAN SAVAGE, SEX ADVICE COLUMNIST: They’re grifters and scumbags, the Bachmanns.

[Applause]

BILL MAHER, HOST: Grifters and scumbags.

SAVAGE: Yes

MAHER: Not just one or the other.

SAVAGE: They’re not charming grifters like in the movie.

MAHER: No, no.

MARC MARON, COMEDIAN: I don’t want to be crass but I just hope that Marcus Bachmann takes all that, you know, rage that comes from repression and denial and brings it into the bedroom with her. I hope he f–ks her angrily because, because that’s how I would. And I’ve thought about it. I just…

[Laughter and applause]

MARON: …It’s a political statement I’m trying to make.

SAVAGE: Just so we get, just so you don’t get charges of sexism, because only Michele Bachmann was involved, I sometimes think about f–king the s–t out of Rick Santorum.

[Laughter and applause]

SAVAGE: Because I think…

MARON: I’m with you.

SAVAGE: …he needs it. So, it’s not, it’s not just women we’re talking about f–king. Like, let’s bone that Santorum boy.

MARON: Alright. Let’s video it.

This is just sick. And what kind of people are in this audience that they think this filth is funny?

Accusations of racism toward conservatives reached new and absurd heights once Obama took office and began implementing his left wing agenda. Now that the left has completely overdone it with the racism thing, people are using it as a means to joke around or mock people who are overly sensitive about race.

The article is definitely worth a read and can be found here.

Man, you just can’t make up crazy stuff like this. The Weekly Standard is reporting that North Korea has been selected to head up the UN Conference on Disarmament:

On Tuesday, the United Nations again made itself an international laughing stock – except perhaps to the American taxpayers who continue to foot 22 percent of the bill – by appointing North Korea chair of the U.N. Conference on Disarmament. That would be the same North Korea that, according to an article this week by Senator John Kerry, head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has “twice tested nuclear weapons…is developing missiles to carry them…has built facilities capable of producing highly enriched uranium for more nuclear weapons” and has defied a U.N. arms embargo by exporting weapons and sensitive technologies to rogue regimes.

Was there ever a more ineffective and irrelevant bureaucratic quagmire than the UN? It’s simply a vast money pit that endlessly swallows billions of taxpayer dollars even as it seeks to undermine our interests at every turn. The sooner we cut off funding to the UN and boot them from our shores, the better. Maybe they’d be better off taking the penthouse of that giant rocketship looking thing in the center of Pyongyang.
